Dalit minor thrashed brutally


BAJURA: A Dalit minor was thrashed brutally after he refused to ferry a local shopkeeper’s goods at Kanda VDC in Bajura today. Bakendra Singh, of Jagbageswori VDC, who runs a shop at Kanda VDC, had mercilessly beaten Manoj Nepali, 14. Chet Nepali, an eyewitness, said Singh had taken Prem Nepali’s son Manoj to a nearby cowshed and beaten him black and blue after the minor refused to carry his goods. A few days back, Singh had given Nepali Rs 500 in cash to ferry his goods from Dab bazaar. Ninjana, the victim’s mother said, “My son could not bring the shopkeeper’s goods as he had gone to the village to play musical instrument.” When Manoj went to Singh’s place to return the money, he was thrashed black and blue. “Singh took Manoj to a cowshed and beat him cruelly,” Chet said. A critically injured Manoj has not been able to talk till date. Prem, the Victim’s father, said Manoj’s brain might have been affected. “We brought him home after he could not be treated at Kanda Health Post”, Prem said, adding “We cannot take him to a well-facilitated hospital for want of money”. A local said Singh, who operates a shop in the village, has been dominating the Dalits. “We cannot report to the police because we fear reprisal from him,” a local said. Police have arrested Singh, inspector Dipak BC said.
