Sweeps away Dalit settlement


KANCHANPUR, JUN 17 - At least 40 households of a Dalit settlement were rendered homeless after the flooding Mahakali river swept away their houses in Darchula district till Monday afternoon. Khalanga, the headquarters of Darchula district, has become tense after the flood triggered by incessant rainfall for the past three days breached its banks. The flood also swept away one Saraswati Raikhola, 30, of Dhap-5, this morning. She was swept away while she was collecting logs on banks of the flood ed river, locals said. Likewise, the raging river has swept away Education Training Centre, District Forest Office, some six houses at Galfai, one clinic, Tatopani Temple and four shops at Chapari among other houses. The swollen river has also inundated Titreyaghat area in Bhimdarshan Municipality-13 of Kanchanpur district. Twenty-three sand miners have been stranded in the middle of Titreyaghat due to the flood . A joint rescue team of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police have been making their efforts to rescue those stranded people since early this morning. Meanwhile, locals saved three lives with the help of a tube last night.
